What to Do on a Rainy Day in Key West

Trips to Key West are best planned for summer or spring, from March through to September. But mother nature may have plans or you may find yourself taking a random trip to Key West -and then it rains! While we offer cozy accommodations at Key West Condos, you don’t have to stay cooped up inside when it rains on the island. And if you are wondering what you can do when it rains on an island? Check out these ideas for what to do on a rainy day in Key West.

Hop-On the Old Town Trolley

What is a little drizzle to rain on your parade? Don’t let the rain stop you as you book a ride on the Old Town Trolley. The open-air trolley will take you around the Conch Republic as professional guides tell you all about the exciting and depth-filled history of the island. And despite the rain, you can enjoy some views of the island under a rainy backdrop. The trolley will also double as a means of transportation to help you get closer to shelter while you take in the streets and scenes of Key West.

Visit the Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum

Ignore the irony of visiting a shipwreck while it’s raining and stop by the Key West Shipwreck on Whitehead Street. The museum is a replica of a 19th-century warehouse and as part of the historical telling of shipwrecks, actors put on live performances and there are also films to tell these stories. Actual salvaged artifacts from the 1856 shipwreck of Isaac Allerton are on display in the museum. It is a perfect trip to learn something, stay dry, and have fun while visiting Key West.

Stop by the Butterfly & Nature Conservatory

Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory is every nature nerd's dream and a great way to enjoy your Key West trip despite the drizzle. Home to over 50 different species of butterflies from around the world, the conservatory on Duval Street also has an array of birds and turtles in a display so beautiful it almost seems magical. In the enclosed greenhouse, you get to learn about the species of butterflies and birds as well as their unique features. It is the perfect scenery to enjoy nature on a cool rainy day.

Book a Spa Session

If you don’t feel like being up and about on a rainy day in Key West, you can visit a local spa for some pampering. Get a mani-pedi and maybe a full body massage while relaxing to the sounds of rain and the wonderful aromatherapy from essential oils and candles. If you decide to visit a restaurant after your spa session, you are definitely on the path to complete relaxation and wellness!

A visit or vacation to Key West doesn’t have to be gloomy because of a rainy day. Make the most of your trip with any of these activities that you can do on a rainy day in Key West. And if you want to stay cuddled indoors, our rental apartments at Key West Condos offer premium comfort!
